Games Workshop Has Given Amazon The IP Rights To Warhammer 40K

Amazon Prime Video will likely see Warhammer series and films coming to its streaming service in the upcoming years.

Games Workshop, the company that produces the miniature war game, announced that it has “reached an agreement in principle” with Amazon. It has said that it’s already given the e-commerce tech company the rights to its IP.

That means a TV series, film(s), animation(s), games, and merchandising rights are all part of the final discussions.

The Warhammer 40K Universe is set in the distant future and features an overarching story that explores a threatened human race beset by hostile aliens and supernatural creatures.

Production company Vertigo Entertainment partnered with Henry Cavill to secure the Games Workshop IP when the Superman actor was seen painting the game’s miniatures during the pandemic. Together, they brought project discussions to Amazon.

Cavill was quoted in a statement, “I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me. The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honour and the responsibility. I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon Studios and Games Workshop to make this happen. One step closer to making a nigh on lifelong dream come true.”
